About the Voiles de St Tropez Regatta

Les Voiles de St Tropez Regatta is the closing event of the summer season in St Tropez and the French Riviera as a whole. Over 300 of the most amazing sailing yachts from all over the world - classic and modern - plus 3500 crew, unite in St Tropez for a week of racing and festivities. You can charter a yacht to view the Voiles St Tropez races, charter a bareboat to race in the Voiles sailing among some of the most beautiful yachts in the world or let us help you find a boat to crew on for the regatta.

St Tropez

Quite simply, St Tropez is the most glamorous destination on the globe. Although known today for the discovery of Bridgette Bardot, the 1980’s superyachts, and the infamous Villebrequin swim shorts, the quaint fishing village was depicted by the 19th-century artists of Paul Signac which paved the way for its reputation today. St Tropez is surrounded by the Maures mountains, crystal blue waters and 17th-century Provencal-style buildings which line the pavements throughout the city. Whether you are watching or participating in the regatta, be sure to check out the fish markets and to pick up a painting whilst onshore.

In the yachting world, Saint Tropez will always be the most exclusive place to visit due to its inaccessibility from airports and land. Unless you want to spend the entire day in a car on very busy motorways, a boat is the only way to visit St Tropez with style. It is the only place on the French Riviera which lies untouched by commercialism, retaining a southern French charm which cannot be replicated in any other European destination.

Chartering a Yacht to compete in the Voiles de St Tropez regatta

The Voiles de Saint Tropez regatta takes place traditionally at the end of September to close the summer season in the French Riviera. The regatta see more than 300 yachts and almost 4000 sailors annually gathering in the town to race. The regatta comprises of very varied fleets with the Rolex Trophy being the most prestigious draw towards the regatta. The prize is presented to the winning crew in a memorable prize giving ceremony on the final day of the regatta.

The 2018 Voiles de St Tropez regatta saw the celebration of the dragon fleet, build by Scottish builder and designer, William Fife. Many other one-off yachts will be racing in this regatta. Expect to see any size, any modification and any performance in this regatta. It is the European regatta for everyone. The regatta is international and welcomes sailors from all across the globe.

The entire port of St Tropez is filled for the week with both classic and modern sailing yachts - a spectator sport in and of itself. Sailing enthusiasts walk the port just gawking at the beauty of these yachts and then take a spectator boat out on the water to watch the numerous races. The air is festive all day and late into the evening. The week comprises of a racing -fuelled week, cocktail parties, dining in some of Europe's finest beach clubs and of course an unmissable prizing giving event on the final day. The number of races per day will depend upon regatta results.

There are several classes of races - Traditional, Modern, "Esprit de Tradition" (modernized traditional yachts), Wally and 12 Meter America's Cup Yachts. You will see J-Class, Maxi's, Swans - pretty much all of the world's most amazing racing yachts.

La Grande Classe Trophy, an invitation-only event for the most distinguished classic yachts, was created in 2004 and is held on Thursday. It brings together the most beautiful traditional racers in the spirit of the old English regattas.

We specialise in providing both crewed charters to compete in the regatta with your own professional team and skipper onboard and delivering the highest standard bareboat charters to compete in the regatta. We review the boats and deliver their previous regatta performance such that you can make an informed decision upon the best yacht to compete within the regatta.
