In between coastal tourist honeypots on the Ionian Sea, Corfu is a rural and sleepy island. The greenest of the Greek islands and carpeted by thousands of olive trees, Corfu is absolutely stunning.

There are certainly parts of Corfu that are overrun by large hotels and the tourist trade, but a charter yacht can avoid all this and bring you to the real Corfu, with beautiful craggy clifs flanking a sandy beach and charming tavernas, shops and restaurants.

Corfu offers relatively light and predictable winds and clear waters as is true of Greece's Ionian Islands. You can read more about chartering in the area in our Ionian Islands Yacht Charter and Sailing Holiday Guide.

With its tile-roofed Venetian quarter, Corfu Town, a UNESCO heritage site is a real highlight on the island. For a spot of culture, the Asian Art Museum is world-class and the Byzantine Museum houses an impressive array of icons from the 15th to 19th century. Corfu remains the intellectual and artistic roots of Greece and their legacy is the fine cuisine along with the incredible museums.

Places to Visit

The postcard view from Kanóni is a must and the Venetian built Néo Froúrio (old fort) is a great place from which enjoy the excellent views over the old town skyline.

A real party town, particularly in the summer, Corfu Town, is a great place for those looking to dance the night away. The locals love a good party and there are concerts almost nightly in the giant plaza. The younger crowd should look to Kassiópi where Passion Club is extremely popular in the summer months.

Kassiópi, in the north of the island, is brimming with original charm. The Byzantine castle up on the hillside is well worth a visit. The town is best known for having the best beaches on the island.
