We discovered the definition of a Luxury Charter on board ILLUSION…

Luxury yacht charters Review: Majestically planted amongst the hundreds of yachts in the Old Port of Cannes, ILLUSION certainly stands out with her stunning 3-deck layout, sleek curves and pristine white finish. Whilst we recently had the opportunity to hop onboard and explore the beauty of this 152ft classic Benetti superyacht, we noted that ILLUSION is nothing short of pure luxury.

Upon entering her aft deck, host to a relaxing lounge area and spacious dining table, and through glass doors, we were welcomed into her bright and open saloon, furnished completely in white. The immaculate condition of Illusion and the beautiful attention to detail with the décor, designed by the owner’s wife, certainly add to her appeal. The rich mahogany furnishings throughout the corridors and cabins bring an authentic feeling to this stately vessel yet the fresh whites of the upholstery keep her open and airy. Her length deceives, as the sheer comfort and space onboard the luxury yacht; ILLUSION is a luxury motor yacht with features that you would expect from a much larger yacht.

The bar featured within the saloon offered a great selection of beverages and we were told that one of the crew members is a particularly adept cocktail maker! It was quickly noted that the crew have a fantastic vibe – all of them young, lively and active – and it’s clear they have a solid foundation and have been working together for a while. Claiming that it’s the best sushi they’ve ever tasted, the Australian chef never fails to impress his fellow colleagues with his fantastic Asian cuisine and will guarantee this, along with a whole lot more, on board a luxury yacht charter with ILLUSION.

Up on the top deck, host to yet another open lounge and dining area, is a stunning and spacious sunbathing area and mosaic pool with jets; ideal for soaking up the sun during the day and winding down in the evenings. The lightwood and white exterior give this luxury motor yacht an extremely Zen feel with its minimalistic and modern design, allowing you to truly enjoy a relaxing luxury yacht charter at sea.

The amazing testimonials for SOULS CALLING – Lagoon 500 in the BVI

We get a lot of great reviews of charter yachts, which is one of the most rewarding parts of the being in the Charter business.  We publish them directly on the site so that all charterers can refer to them when chartering.

But we keep getting such consistently superb feedback on SOULS CALLING that we felt we needed to single it out for special mention.  SOULS CALLING is captained by Alex Mulder, who is a very skilled skipper, knows the BVI like the back of his hand, and basically doesn’t know the word “No”.  He loves his job, always goes the extra mile, and wants his guests to have the best holiday of their lives. And he always seems to deliver.  Carla is a superb cook and takes great care that the guests are happy. The two together work magic.

SOULS calling is a 2007 Lagoon 500 catamaran, with 3 spacious cabins and large common areas.  Lagoons are famous for their great panoramic windows in the salon, giving beautiful views and lightness to the galley and salon.  The boat is immaculately clean and all details are cared for lovingly.

We think, however, it’s best to hear testimonials from the charter guests themselves – here are just a few!

Cathy Said:

“This trip was so amazing I truly believe words cannot describe, the beauty, relaxation, delicious food, comfortable living space, cleanliness, and dedication to details. Alex was not only a phenomenal , competent captain but he made you feel like there wasn`t anything he wouldn`t do to make you feel at home on this gorgeous vessel. Carla was a superb cook and her humility created such an endearing quality we all wanted to take her home. I loved this trip so much I actually wrote a poem about my time away with friends entitled: A Collective Sigh.

A COLLECTIVE SIGH Nowhere to be, nothing to do…but float in Paradise Ah…no words Blissful silence of surrender Laughter…Dancing Ah…good food, wine, blue skies Ah…friends saying more through looks and smiles; No need for words True companionship, celebration of life Non-judgment, no pretenses Just being you Ah………. My heart and soul breathes in gratitude and breathes out gratitude All ONE COLLECTIVE BLISSFUL SIGH.”

Needless to say, Alex and Carla were fabulous! They treated us with such care. We all came home a few pounds heavier thanks to Carla but it was worth every bite! Alex was a perfect host and made sure our daughters were always happy with water sports and the parents were always with a drink in our hands….it was an awesome experience!!!”

The Easy “Point and Click” Way to Plan your Charter Itinerary – Route, Distance, Fuel Cost and Consumption

One of the most popular and useful pages on our site is the journey planner – you can plan your route distance, cost, fuel consumption, etc. In fact, it’s the page we use the most internally when working with clients. You simply go to your starting port, and begin clicking away until you’ve planned you’re route.  The page will tell you the total distance.  Then simply add the average speed, fuel consumption per hour and price of fuel, and you have the total time of the trip, fuel consumed and cost. Very cool!

We’ve just updated the page to increase the size of the map and make it easier to use! Try it out and bookmark it!

Vintage Champagne and fine wine tastings on board your luxury yacht

Brett Turner, Chairman and co-founder of Cambridge Wine Merchants Ltd www.cambridgewine.coma certified Wine and Spirit Education Trust course provider and Ben Steadman Director of Maison Jardin Mer Ltd www.maisonjardinmer.com and Riva Cannes www.rivacannes.com have created a joint venture BiBi Tastings, providing vintage champagne and wine tastings on board luxury motor yachts and specialisied champagne, wine and whisky tastings at select locations, hotels and villas on the Côte d’Azur between April and September each year.

Devised by Brett Turner, Chevalier in the Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne, author of ‘Champagne, an Imbiber’s Guide’ and Chairman of one of the UK’s top wine merchants, the Bibi tastings are 1-2 hour private sessions for 10 to 30 guests held on land and at sea.

Bibi Tastings offer delicious tasting options to savour on board your yacht or at one of several fine locations.

The Prestige Cuvée Masterclass.

Is Cristal worth five times the price of its baby brother Roederer Brut Premier? Is drinking Dom Perignon at eight years old (the wine, not you) a crime? Can you tell a $100+ bottle from a midweek-priced gem? Find out if they’re really worth the money. Pitting the best of Champagne’s rare and highly-prized Prestige editions against each other, against straight Vintage wines and supposedly “lesser” versions too. A VERY rare chance to sample these wines, the jewel in the crown of the Champagne industry, against each other.

Ancient and Rare Masterclass

We are in a profoundly favourable position in that as a fine wine dealer, we have access to some of the world’s most impressive wine collections – from Cambridge and Oxford College cellars to private collections. We trade young wines for the VERY old – wines which have lain undisturbed for decades in perfect conditions. Taste wine 100 years old or more and compare grand mature wines against their baby descendents. Not often in life will you have the chance to compare such wines at one tasting.

Wines of Provence

Winemaking in Provence pre-dates even the Roman occupation. Many of the best wines are sold in the Riviera’s restaurants and rarely make it abroad, but we’ve rounded up some favourites including of course the best of the regions very serious Rosé wines for which it’s justly famous.

New World vs. Old

A straightforward head to head contest pitting the Classics of Europe against the Upstarts from the New World. Also, a perfect opportunity to study factors affecting the flavours of wine: ripeness, acidity, alcohol content, oak ageing etc. Bibi Tastings is in a prime position to host such events as we stock wines from all over the world – from Argentina to Alsace; from Beaune to Barossa.

France vs. The Rest of the World

France remains the world’s most important producer of high quality wine. The grand structured dinner red – a wine worthy of extended ageing – as we know it was “invented” in Bordeaux. Sauvignon Blanc may fare well in New Zealand but the Loire Valley is its ancestral home. All over the globe talented winemakers use French wine styles as a goal – but can they compete? On quality? On price? Can Chilean Merlot undercut Claret?                                                                  Does Cava beat cheap Champagne?

The World Pinot Noir Contest

Every winemaker’s goal is to tame this haunting and capricious grape variety. Pinot’s ancestral home is in the rural beauty of Burgundy, once tended by Monks – but will a thousand years of experience triumph over modern know-how and verve?

Giro d’Italia

A good old root around the corners of Italy – the one country where every single province makes wine. From classsics such as Chianti to the rustic charm (and value) of the South.

Tour de France

More fun than that cycle race and easier on the seat, here we investigate some benchmarks and some hidden gems from lesser-known areas. Results are always surprising – France really holds up supremely well for overall quality, and some of these “lesser” wines are top buys.

Best Dinner Reds

Avoiding quaffers and gluggers we head straight for serious wines of structure destined to be deployed at table. Always a joy to pitch each region or country’s best dinner wines against each other.

Fortified Fest

A radical proposal: to consider and evaluate Port, Sherry, Madeira (and other such fortified wines) as members of one vinous family and thus to some extent interchangeable in deployment/enjoyment.

A Brit hosting wine tastings in France, why?

It may seem odd, but although Britain can’t claim any fame for creating fine wine, it certainly turns out some of the world’s finest wine experts and merchants. Most Masters of Wine – generally considered the top global qualification- are British. The Wine and Spirits Education Trust, the leading international wine educator, is based in London, as is the Court of Master Sommeliers, and many leading wine writers. Britain has a long history (the best part of a thousand years!) of trading and enjoying wine and currently boasts probably the widest selection of wines available from all over the world which are soon to be unleashed upon the Cote d’Azur.

Sharing this knowledge and range of champagnes and wines with travellers to the Cote d’Azur and offering them specialised sessions onboard a luxury motor yacht and in magical locations on land guarantees a memorable feast for the senses in the home of the finest wines and champagnes known to man.

Prices vary according to the tasting but generally between 60 and 100 Euros per head. Bibi Tastings provide the sommelier and all the necessary materials and pay a 10% Commission fee to the yacht, venue or location proprietor. Bibi Tastings are not only enjoyable they are economical and fun.

A cool iPhone App – Anchor Alert – Know if Your Anchor is Dragging!

Anchor Alert for iPhone to see if your anchor is draggingThere seems to be no end to the uses of iPhones on Yachts – we’ve just come across an app that does one thing well – tell you if your anchor is dragging!  Think about how many times you’ve looked at the shore to see if it’s getting closer, without being sure. This app – Anchor Alert – simply uses the iPhone’s GPS to establish where the boat is anchored, and if you drift more than the normal length of your anchor lead, it sends you an alarm. So you can sleep in peace knowing you will be alerted before you drift into a rock!

Cool app for $3.99 at the Apple App Store.

We compile a list of cool yachting and boating iPhone and iPad apps on the Boatbookings site – which we’re constantly updating. If you know of useful apps for yachting, please go to the page and leave us a note.
