Monaco Grand Prix: Formula 1 Heads Home

The Monaco Grand Prix is without doubt one of, if not the most, prestigious events in the Formula One Racing calendar. Having been named the home of F1 Racing, as the residence of a number of F1 drivers, it is also the host of the Historic Grand Prix, which has already taken place.

From Thursday 24 May to Sunday 27 May 2018, all eyes are on the racetrack that runs through this billionaire’s playground, with tensions high as it is renowned to be one of the most challenging to navigate.

Favourites Red Bull and Ferrari head to Monaco with high hopes, whilst Mercedes have some concerns over the manoeuvrability of their car on the slow, tight track around the Principality. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton is 17 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel for Ferrari following wins in the past two races, but with doubts from the team, it is unclear whether Mercedes will remain in pole position.

The biggest event in film is returning for its 71st year in the beautiful South of France. For two weeks, Hollywood will take short-term residence along the French Riviera as a number of original films compete for numerous awards such as the prestigious Palme D’Or, Un Certain Regard, Best Actor and Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival (Festival de Cannes en Français).

Having been comparable to “two weeks at the Oscars” the Cannes Film Festival is entrenched in glitz and glamour, with previous celebrity attendees being models, actors and music artists alike, such as Rihanna, Nicole Kidman, Bella Hadid, David Beckham and Jessica Chastain. With Cate Blanchett heading up the panel as President of the Competition Jury, this year’s Film Festival promises to be as magical as the last.

Films to watch out for this year include the Spanish psychological thriller Everybody Knows directed by Asghar Farhadi, which will open the Festival. Some of the other most anticipated films being featured include Under the Silver Lake, BlacKkKlansman, Girls of the Sun, Fahrenheit 451 and The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, the Festival’s closing film.

Fireworks will always look better from a boat!

On the evening of Monday 7th August, we went from the Boatbooking’s office down to the harbour, in order to watch Austria’s entry into the Cannes Festival D’Art Pyrotechniques fireworks competition on board Argo, one of our favourite boats, and paired with Gerard, one of our favourite captains!
It made truly such a big difference being able to view the fireworks display from a yacht; the atmosphere around us was buzzing and the fireworks felt so close that we could reach out and touch them!

Here’s just a few photos from the night:

Heading to port!

More and more boats gradually joined us, making it feel really communal even though we were all in different places!

It wouldn’t be a proper fireworks display without a bit of love in the air!

We all had such an amazing night, and no one thought seeing the fireworks display from a boat would make much of a difference- but how we were wrong! I think it’s safe to say none of us will ever want to go back to watching the fireworks on the land anymore, and we are more than ready to arrange the same experience for you next time!

There are still two dates left: 15th and 24th August,

Check out our Cannes Fireworks Day Boat Charter page for all the info you’ll need to arrange your own unforgettable charter:

The French Riviera: Taking ‘Al Fresco’ to the Extreme

The French Riviera is famous for its glistening turquoise water, golden beaches, Mediterranean culture and views that you just wouldn’t find elsewhere. The Cote d’Azur is the perfect composition of sun, sea and serenity, with the picturesque scenes of sailboats gently bobbing along; the rows of sunbeds nestled into the invitingly dazzling coastlines; high end shops and artisan districts that seem to clash yet complement each other so beautifully, resulting in a burst of colourful culture secreted within the bejewelled exterior of the French Riviera. You would think the Cote d’Azur was expertly tailored to suit those who seek a holiday for the luxuries, the materials, the sunbathing and the relaxation.

Monaco, in all its twinkling glory!

However, there is a side to the French Riviera that has only recently started to make an appearance; the Cote d’Azur has a surprisingly vast amount of adrenaline fuelled activities, such as wakeboarding, windsurfing, SCUBA as well as freediving. The serene imagery of the tranquil, bronzing vacations can be completely left behind in the foaming, turbulent wake of a water-skier being dragged along effortlessly by a high-speed RIB. The hustle and bustle of the thousands of holidaymakers, flocking to the allure of the sun-kissed shoreline can speed past in just the blink of an eye, the sounds and scenes of the Azure Coast drowned out by the tigress purr of a SeaDoo jet ski.

Glisse-Evasion, Nice: Wakeboarding

Whilst it may be easy to stumble into the belief that the Cote d’Azur is reserved for those seeking the sun and the sundries, the thrust and excitement of your first parachuting experience, with the wind in your hair and the land in your distant memories, is sure to rip those woollen sunglasses right off your eyes.

Blue Addiction: Freediving

Here are a couple of ideas, hand-plucked from the plethora of water sports that the French Riviera has to offer, ranging from toe dabbling along the coastline to jumping right in at the deep end like a true daredevil.

Glisse EvasionFor the Adrenaline Junkie in all of us.

Glisse-Evasion is a Nice-based water activities company with a wide range of experiences on offer, ranging from Banana Boats, Parachuting and Paddleboarding.

Located just along the Promenade des Anglais, by Blue Beach, Glisse-Evasion is not hard to find, so don’t be afraid to pop along and plan an experience that will stay with you for a lifetime!

Blue AddictionFor the more exotic Daredevil.

Blue Addiction provides a freediving experience- that is essentially SCUBA diving but without the air. Don’t worry, you are in safe, professional hands!

Blue Addiction is situated in La Londe-les-Maures, in between Marseille and St. Tropez. It is run by a team of professionals with some very impressive credentials behind them.

However, Freediving isn’t just an extreme activity; in Malaysia and Indonesia Bajau Fishermen freedive amongst the corals to make a living, with nothing but a lungful of air and a spear, they dive down to depths of 20 metres to seek out reef fish. Some may spend as long as 5 minutes underwater!

So, if you’re on the search for a holiday packed full of adventures, adrenaline and long lasting memories, look no further than the French Riviera. From luxury to energy; sun to salt spray; it’s safe to say that a French Riviera Yacht Charter with Boatbookings offers something for everyone!
