Day 1: Milazzo to Lipari

Lipari Yacht Charter

Begin your journey in Milazzo, the gateway to the effervescent Aeolian Islands. If you decide to arrive a day or two early, take the time to explore its port and old town, filled with winding streets, local boutiques, and a melting pot of cultural influences from Greek to Spanish. On the first day of your charter, you’ll step on board and meet your welcoming and attentive crew. Grab a drink, explore your home for the next week, and then find a cozy spot to sit and watch as you set sail for Lipari. With the largest population of the Aeolian Islands, Lipari boasts a bundle of pastel-colored buildings that line the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea. You will end the evening with a lovely welcome dinner from the crew and a stunning first sunset.

Day 2: Lipari to Panarea

Panarea Yacht Charter

Wake up in Lipari on your first morning and take a trip to the Archeological Museum to see just how many cultures influenced this cluster of islands. When you make your way back to the boat, wave goodbye to Lipari’s rocky shores as you head for Panarea, stopping between Bottaro and Lisca Nera for a late lunch and dip in the water. Panarea is an Aeolian Island gem with whitewashed buildings that line the coast where rocky shores meet sapphire waters. As a car-free island, it is the pinnacle of peace and luxury. With less commercial traffic, charterers are in for exclusive, quiet coves, crystal-clear waters, and untouched sides of the island that will inspire any visitor. Try out the abundance of water toys on your boat in Cala Junco Bay or explore the secret coves tucked into the shores. Don’t let the quiet nature of the island fool you, though. When the sun goes down, the Island’s best nightclubs come alive. The seasonal nightclub at Hotel Raya (only open from mid-July to August every year) will have you dancing until it’s time to leave for the next island.

Day 3: Panarea to Stromboli

Stromboli volcano smoking

Bid farewell to Panarea after a slow wakeup call before heading to Stromboli. Nicknamed the Lighthouse of the Mediterranean for its continuous activity, Stromboli rises out of the Tyrrhenian with a showstopping bang. As one of the three active volcanoes in Italy, it is not unlikely to see puffs of smoke rising from the crater of the Volcano. You can also visit a local favorite: Grotta di Eolo, just one of the black sand beaches on the island. The stretch of onyx sand is home to a natural cave formed from the lava that spills out of the above volcano. Spend time exploring the unique geological features and swimming in the shallow waters before heading to the small town of Ginostra for the evening. Here you’ll tantalize your taste buds with southern-Italian cuisine. Sicily is known for its dishes that are rich in flavor and simple in ingredients. With fresh off-the-boat seafood, citrus, and produce, the extraordinary combination of flavors will have you never wanting to leave. After your full day of exploring the island and volcano, join your crew back on the boat for a sunset sail to the west side of the island and watch as lava crawls down the side of the mountain, actively creating new formations.

Day 4: Stromboli to Salina

Sunset on Salina

You’ll wake up at Stromboli this morning and wave goodbye to its fading shoreline as you make the trek to Salina, the Aeolians’ second-largest island. Here, small villages hang on the edges of the rocky formations and look out to a seamless horizon where you have to squint to tell where the sea meets the sky. Salina is known for its lush, green landscapes peppered with wildflowers and alluring trails that cater to all nature lovers. Take a hike up to Monte Fossa Felci, the highest peak in the Aeolian Islands, for stunning panoramic views of the water. Alternatively, rent a motorized scooter and see the island on your own time. Feel the Sicilian breeze in your hair as you make your way to a Malvasia Vineyard to learn more about this special grape and its deeply rooted history. Salina promises a much more intimate Italian experience. The island asks visitors to slow down and take a moment to exist alongside the land and culture to capture what it means to be a local. When dusk falls, head to Santa Marina Salina, the main town, for a mouthwatering meal and stroll along the streets before heading back to the boat for a cozy night’s sleep.

Day 5: Salina to Filicudi

View of Filicudi Island from Lipari

On day 5 of your bespoke Sicilian Itinerary, you will wave goodbye to the rocky shores of Salina and head for the blissful, less-trafficked island of Filicudi. With many island hoppers being drawn to the eastern islands, it leaves Filicudi with barely worn paths calling to those who are looking for a bit of the wild side of island life. With a rocky coastline that edges into the Tyrrhenian Sea, Filicudi invites charterers to explore its run of hidden coves and caves. Sail to Grotta del Bue Marino for a heavenly float in the tranquil blue waters. Snorkel gear will come in handy as the waters are crystal clear, making for perfect conditions. After your thorough exploration of the cerulean waters of Filicudi, you’ll join your crew back on the boat for a symphony of Mediterranean flavors backdropped by the sprinkling of stars that begin making their debut for the evening.

Day 6: Filicudi to Alicudi

Filicudi and Alicudi Islands

Wake up to the view of Filicudi once more before making your way over to Alicudi, where small clusters of buildings cradled at the base of the mountain make up the island’s small towns. Situated on the outskirts of the Aeolian Islands, this quiet island asks guests to take in the slower, earthier sides of island life. There are no cars, no taxis, and very little in the way of roads. Locals get around here on foot or by donkey, which the locals refer to as “scecchi.” Today, you’ll sail around Alicudi and meander in and out of its several bays, making good use of your boat’s ample supply of water toys. Dinner will be an artful culinary experience set outdoors with an unforgettable view of the setting sun, before a cozy night’s sleep under the heavens.

Day 7: Alicudi to Vulcano

Vulcano Island in Sicily

After a slow morning where the smell of freshly brewed coffee lures you from your rooms, you will make your way to the sulfur-scented island of Vulcano, featuring another one of Italy’s active volcanoes. Drawing in tourists for its spa-like features, the island invites charterers to its mud baths. With benefits including detoxification, exfoliation, and hydration, guests will leave here feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on their next adventure. End your evening on board for one last incredible meal in a celebration of your time in Sicily. Pay homage to the wonderful culture you have just immersed yourself in and toast to the Aeolian Islands.

Day 8: Vulcano to Milazzo

Port of Milazzo

Wake up in the Aeolian Islands once more and enjoy a leisurely morning warmed by a cup of coffee before beginning the journey back to the mainland. As you watch the bow cut through the waters, let the breeze carry your memories with you as you sail toward Sicily. With a renewed, stress-free spirit, say goodbye to the wonderful crew and disembark in Milazzo. After a week on a boat, get your land legs back and meander through the port town of Milazzo with a new perspective. From relaxed island life to heart-pounding volcanic encounters, the Aeolian Islands will leave you with unforgettable experiences, making it a place you’ll always want to return to.
