Cannes Film Festival, Day 12 – Zulu – Our Yacht Nominee:CALLISTO!

The glamour and excitement of the Cannes Film Festival is such that the final day is already upon us! The most prestigious film festival in the world has passed in a whirlwind of celebrities, fast cars, and flashing sequins. Yet it is also never one to go out with a whisper. The final day of the 66^th Festival de Cannes will close with a screening of the thriller Zulu by Jerome Salle featuring acting heavy weights Orlando Bloom who we know from films such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings and Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland, Ghost Dog).

It is an adaptation of the fantastic novel of the same name by Caryl Ferey which was awarded the Grand prix de litterature policiere in 2008. This powerful film sees cops, Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker team up in an attempt to bring the murderer of an 18 year old girl to justice in a South Africa still rife with racial and social tensions from the apartheid.

Cannes Film Festival, Day 7 – Behind the Candelabra – Our Yacht Nominee: WILD THYME !

Day 7 of the Cannes Film Festival features the highly anticipated standalone drama, Behind the Candelabra, by Steven Soderbergh, an Academy Award–winning film director, best known for directing critically acclaimed Hollywood films such as Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich and Traffic. It is based on Liberace’s autobiographical novel recounting the tempestuous 6-year homosexual relationship between him and his young lover, Scott Thorson. Liberace is masterfully played by the Hollywood veteran Michael Douglas, who paints a stark picture of celebrity loneliness in this dark comedy. Together with Matt Damon, who plays the young lover Scott Thorson, they are magnificent in portraying this beautiful but toxic relationship that moves from the highs of their first years together to miserable loneliness and Liberace’s death in 1987.

Cannes Film Festival, Day 6 – Shield of Straw – Our Yacht Nominee: Ferretti 680!

Day 6 of the world famous Cannes Film Festival sees the premiere of Takashi Miike’s ‘Wara No Tate,’ ‘Shield of Straw.’ The film is set in Tokyo and evidently lives up to Takashi Miike’s dark and sadistic nature with plenty of violence and gore throughout. It begins with a convicted child rapist and murderer who has recently been released from prison committing a cruel murder of an innocent young girl. Consequently the girl’s wealthy and powerful grandfather, Tsutomu Yamazaki seeks immediate revenge by offering a sum of 1 billion Yen to anyone who manages to kill the prime suspect. Realising he is a dead man walking, the child killer, Kunihide Kiyomaru turns himself in to the police. As the plot thickens, five elite cops are assigned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to escort Kiyomaru back to Tokyo for his trial. A dilemma unfolds; whom can they trust, can they trust themselves? Will human nature take its course and who will reap the reward? This film by Takashi Miike pushes varying boundaries of physical and mental emotions. Many questions are asked and as the body count of the innocent rises, it becomes more and more difficult to justify the suspects’ protection. This highly anticipated film will be showcased on Monday 20th at 8:30 and 22:30, 2013.

Cannes Film Festival, Day 5 – Inside Llewyn Davis – Our Yacht Nominee: Riva Aquarama

Day 5 of the Festival International de Film, and the film of the day is Inside Llewyn Davis. Directed and written by both Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, Inside Llewyn Davis recounts the story of a singer-songwriter who navigating New York’s folk music scene in the 1960s, struggling to make his name. The film stars Justin Timberlake, John Goodman and Carey Mulligan, star of The Great Gatsby which also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on opening night.

So in keeping with the era, the traditional style of folk music and the decade of the ’60s, our yacht nominee in this Riva Aquarama, available for charter on Lake Garda, Italy.
