Grenada – Welcome to the Spice of the Caribbean!

Grenada is one of the most beautiful and lush Islands in the West Indies.  She is an unspoiled gem of the Caribbean known as the Spice Isle for the nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, ginger, vanilla, turmeric and many more other spices that grow abundantly on this endlessly green and serene island. The island is a tranquil oasis that has thankfully avoided much of the over-development that has taken place throughout much of the Caribbean.grenada

With some of the best beaches in the world, it’s virgin rainforest, majestic mountains, calming lakes and invigorating waterfalls are all home to beautiful exotic wildlife. The island also has a vibrant culture that has made them some of the most proud and welcoming locals on the planet, ideal for your boat charter.

Grenada lies at the southernmost tip of the Windward Islands and feels a bit off the beaten path of the tourist track so it’s the perfect place to fly into and start your grenadines charter.   With direct flights available from many countries this is the perfect place to relax and unwind for a few days before you head out on the water to explore St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Marina_stgeorgesHere are 3 things you must do on land while in Grenada:

1. Head to the Beach

Grand Anse Beach is a stunning 2 mile stretch of white sand and calm seas and one of the most popular of tourists and the locals.  If you are looking for a bit of seclusion from the rest of the world then La Sagesse, Bathway and Leverae Beach are the perfect spots to hide out and also explore the countryside.

grananse2.  Explore the Rainforest

The rainforest is home to the Grenada Dove (their national bird), rare Mona monkeys, armadillo, which is know locally as tatou, and other uncommon animals and birds, as well as all kinds of intriguing plant life.  The mist-enshrouded Grand Etang National Park and Forest Reserve is a sense-surrounding experience of nature in all of her glory.  The centerpiece is a once active volcano named Lake Grand Etang.  Be sure to bring some local bananas to feed the cheeky monkeys!

3.  Dive into the Waterfalls

With the lush rainforest perched atop the mountain peaks, Grenada has plenty of active waterfalls, several are spectacularly dramatic, for you to explore.  If you are not much of a hiker then Annandale has a paved pathway and is perfect for rock hopping and having a delicious picnic.  For the more adventurous looking for hidden treasure and game for a trek, try Concord, Mount Carmel, and Seven Sisters Waterfalls.  Local guides are available and recommended and be sure to bring suitable hiking shoes and your bathing suit!
