Heesen Yachts 50m SATORI is a Double Winner at Prix du Design Awards Ceremony

Dutch shipbuilder Heesen Yachts was the proud recipient of two World Yacht Trophies awarded in Cannes and the prestigious Prix du Design in Monaco for SATORI, the first of the 50 meter aluminum class, semi-custom series. The yacht was delivered last May and officially christened during the Monaco Grand Prix.

The World Yacht Trophies ceremony took place at the Carlton Beach, Cannes in mid-September. SATORI, a Buddhist term for enlightenment, was competing in the category Custom Yachts under 50m and won both the Best Design and Best Layout and Decoration awards.

Designer Rémi Tessier successfully evokes a Zen spirituality throughout the yacht interior using clean lines and a dramatic juxtaposition of dark and light, an effective nuance of the balance of yin and yang.

Fabio Ermetto, Sales and Marketing Director at Heesen Yachts, collected the prizes and commented: “I am honored to receive these two prizes on behalf of the Owner. Satori is a beautiful vessel. Her clean, distinctive design and perfect execution are the result of incredible teamwork. Thank you to the Owner for his vision, to Rémi Tessier for his creativity, and to the Heesen staff for their incredible ingenuity.”

The Prix du Design ceremony took place on board SATORI, docked at Quai des Etats Unis during the XXI Monaco Yacht Show. HSH Prince Albert of Monaco, Gaëlle Tallarida – GM of the show – and Anna Becker from Nymphenburg, awarded SATORIs Owner with the stunning trophy, the Volute Bowl, a unique piece of ceramic designed by Ted Muheling and entirely hand crafted at the Nymphenburg atelier in Munich.

2011 Monaco Yacht Show Hailed as a Superb Success Industry Wide

The Monaco Yacht Show concluded on a high note with industry professionals enthusiastic about sailing forward towards an increasingly bright horizon.

The internationally famous and breathtakingly beautiful event was buzzing with wealth and business excitement. More than 100 superyachts, with over 40 making their worldwide debut, lined the docks inside Port Hercules to participate in what is being hailed as the most successful show to date.

This year’s large yacht line up included: Steven Spielberg’s Seven Seas (86 m), Cakewalk (85 m) and Imagine the high volume 64 meter Amels build. Prima, the brand new yacht from Columbus Yachts, was one of several yachts from first time builders. Adrenaline junkies loved Shooting Star a superfast 38 meter, carbon-fiber superyacht from Espen Oeino and Danish Yachts. Hemisphere, the world’s largest catamaran, attracted throngs of sailing enthusiasts. Big Fish, the dramatically designed transoceanic yacht, was also on display for sale.

Industry wide confidence was high, a welcome sign of ongoing recovery from the gloomy world economy. The real benefits of the Monaco Show can only be determined over the weeks to come, but reports from participants were enthusiastic with regard to the quality and quantity of enquiries.

The Monaco Yacht Show is importantly a venue to underscore and promote environmentally friendly initiatives. Charitable functions included support for Wood Forever, a program backed by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, dedicated to fighting world deforestation. This year Show organizers donated €40,000 to better educate industry professionals to use only wood certified as originating from sustainable forests in the effort to halt deforestation. The Show was also the occasion for Wood Forever to formalize the support of SYBA and the new commitment of the US shipyard Burger Boat as the very first member of the program.

In association with the Monaco Yacht Show, the RINA classification society presented the Green Plus Yacht certificates 2011 to Palumbo shipyard’s build Prima and Numptia from Rossi Navi shipyard, two yachts whose construction meets with compliance of the strictest environmental regulations. His Serene Highness Prince Albert II made the award to the yachts builders in the company of his guest, His Royal Highness King Juan Carlos of Spain who joined him on his tour of the show.

Monaco Yacht Show – Trends and What’s Hot

Under gorgeous sunny skies, the Monaco Yacht Show unveiled 100 Super Yachts, stunning tenders and 500 exhibitors on Wednesday the 21st. There was no shortage of hot tubs, entertainment rooms, fancy navigation gear, and water toys.  The crowd seemed a bit thicker and more upbeat this year than last, but we’ll wait for the official statistics.

We saw fewer sailing yachts than in past years (one Swan, one Perini-Navi, one Wally, and Hemisphere, the world’s largest catamaran), but a greater emphasis on Green Yachting (go figure).  We will detail some of the individual yachts we saw in upcoming posts, but show favorites included Yogi, Excellence III, and Cakewalk – measuring in at 85 meters.  More updates to come, but we wanted to at least share some images with you for weekend dreaming!

Superyacht F45 MY HELIX Emerges from Feadship Royal Van Lent Shipyard

Wednesday, August 16, the Feadship Royal Van Lent shipyard launched HELIX, the fifth hull in the F45 series. The interiors on this magnificent yacht feature an appropriately nautical theme with an air of the traditional classic yacht updated to suit a contemporary European aesthetic. The modern mix of light fabric covered walls in rich mahogany wooden frames and highly contrasting textiles and materials adds exciting visual interest. Designed by De Voogt Naval Architects and Sinot Yacht Design, HELIX is a superb example of the ingenuity, sophistication, and innovative technology that has long been synonymous with the brand. Notable features include a non-traditional layout that locates the guest staterooms and the master suite on the main deck for extraordinary views from every compartment. HELIX will cruise to the Mediterranean in time to make her public debut at the upcoming Monaco Yacht Show, held from September 21 to 24. The Feadship stand is number QT3 is on the central T-Jetty. Here visitors can view the 2011 Feadship Future Concept Model that incorporates new eco-conscious ideology with more emphasis on leisure and less on formality of space. Greater speeds, reduced fuel consumption, lighter interiors, higher ceilings, more watersports and new-generation technologies and design are the end product of cumulative research.
