Anegada Yacht Charter Guide | BVI

About Anegada

bvi yacht charter, bvi charter guide, bvi boat rental,British Virgin IslandsAnegada is the second largest island of the British Virgin Islands located 1-2 hours sail northeast of Tortola in a vast coral reef. This is where you can escape to paradise beaches where flamingoes roam free and evenings of pina coladas and barbecued lobster are a frequent occasion!

With a swashbuckling history of shipwrecks and a wide array of wildlife, Anegada will surely be a world away from anything you've experienced before. Remarkably different from any other island you will see during your BVI Yacht Charter, Anegada is made from coral, the reason for its flat terrain. Definitely worth a trip if you're looking for a relaxed beach day accompanied by a few rum drinks and a big lobster roast at night!

There is no true harbor or protected mooring area on the island, but the preferred mooring is an opening in the coral reef in its southwestern side near the Anegada Reef Hotel and Pomato Point. Once anchored, you can enjoy a cold beer and spend a fine day on the beach or touring the island to see its wildlife. You can easily find a taxi to take you to see the Flamingoes or the Loblolly beach, which is the main snorkeling beach.

Irma Update: Anegada was largely spared by hurricane Irma, and is fully back to normal! (OK, minus a palm tree or two.) See more in our BVI springs back after Irma article. We've also tracked the key bars and restaurants that have reopened in the BVI.

Things to See and Do

Lobster dinners on Anegada

The main evening activity on Anegada is to have freshly caught, barbecued lobster (or chicken or steak) in one of several beach restaurants in the main port of Anegada.  With your feet in the sand, you will enjoy a festive dinner that is unique to Anegada. And then a bit of dancing ashore before returning to your yacht!  Try the Anegada Beach Club or Potters (which has the live DJ).

Loblolly Bay

When mooring at Anegada, take a short taxi ride to Loblolly Bay to make the most out of the crystal clear waters snorkeling or relaxing on the beach. On the way, keep your eyes open for the famous flamingoes! (do tell your driver that you would like to see them).

Here you can explore one of the many deserted picture-perfect beaches of the Caribbean, enjoy a pina colada in the Big Bamboo restaurant or take a break from the sun on one of the shaded beaches.  There's no doubt that Anegada is a great place to chill!

Horseshoe Reef

A must do whilst in Anegada, Horseshoe reef is surrounded by quiet secluded beaches and offers some of the best lobster and conch fishing in the BVI. This 18-mile long coral reef is the largest in the Caribbean and home to spectacular marine life and some shipwreck underwater scenery that is sure to be awe-inspiring!

Cow Wreck Bar

Another fun day excursion is a walk clockwise around the western side of the island to Cow Wreck Bar, named because a boat carrying cattle bones sank off the reef and deposited thousands of bones that can still be seen today. The Cow Wreck Bar is a fun place to hang out during the day and have a "Dark and Stormy" drink. You can swim, snorkel, or even play a bit of basketball, but most people just sit on the Adirondack chairs on the beach and watch the waves!

Our BVI Charter Yachts

The best way to experience the island of Anegada is by catamaran, either crewed, bareboat or bareboat with skipper, as the low draft allows easy access to the coral and islands. We generally recommend having a skipper on board the first time you charter to the island, in order to take the stress away and make the most of your relaxed time away.

Boatbookings offers several hundred charter yachts in the BVI, and can find you the ideal boat for your party. Whether it's bareboat, crewed, monohull, catamaran, motor or Super Yacht, we can find it for you! More importantly, we regularly visit the boats and know the crews, so you get the quality and service you expect!
