Rhode Island: Serious Contender to Host 34th America’s Cup Race

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) is enthusiastic about hosting the 2013 34th America’s Cup following requests for discussion by BMW-Oracle race officials. The event was slated for San Francisco but some concerns with negotiations have prompted BMW-Oracle to reconsider.

The RIEDC anticipates both immediate and long-term benefits for Rhode Island, which is battling an 11 per cent unemployment rate. The event is likely to attract the largest sporting, tourism and media crowds in Rhode Island history.

The state has already begun planning infrastructure improvements to Fort Adams State National Park, which encompasses 170 acres of state owned land and marine assets in Newport. Beside the creation of immediate jobs, if the site wins the bid to host the event it will affirm Newport as an international sailing center and attract a range of future sailing and yachting events to its shores.

Bringing the America’s Cup back to Rhode Island will be most beneficial to the marine manufacturing trade. Boat-builders, carpenters and artisans hard hit by a sluggish economy believe the event will reinvigorate the marine industry. America’s Cup officials are expected to announce the chosen city by the end of this year.

Newfoundland Marina To Attract Yachts From Eastern Seaboard and Great Lakes

Channel-Port aux Basques, a quaint fishing village nestled on the extreme southwestern tip of the island of Newfoundland, Canada, is finally realizing plans for a recreational marina. According to a report in the local Gulf News, the marina will expand the existing government wharf with the addition of several floating docks and new wharves.

Channel-Port aux Basques is the gateway to Newfoundland and Labrador. To date, full advantage of the strategic location of the town has not been developed. Annually visited by half a million tourists that include many yachts from the Great Lakes and locations along the Eastern Seaboard, improvements in facilities are aimed to increase tourism and boost economic development.

The easternmost Canadian province comprises the island of Newfoundland and mainland Labrador. Newfoundland and the surrounding smaller islands offer an intriguing destination to adventuresome yachtsmen. Small communities sprinkled along the coast maintain French, English and Irish dialects and cultural traditions. In Labrador, Innu-aimun and Inuktit dialects are also spoken due to a significant presence of founding Algonquin and Inuit cultures.

For a dramatically beautiful and culturally rewarding charter itinerary, consider Newfoundland, Labrador, the  Great Lakes and amazing destinations along the Eastern Seaboard on your next charter.  We'd be happy to help!

Newport Report – New sailing yachts for charter in Newport, RI including a race ready Swan 56

Meg Toppa from our Fort Lauderdale office, made her annual visit to Newport last week and reports that there are fewer places she’d rather be in the summer!  She visited a Swan 56 that is available for the BVI spring regattas that was race ready for the Newport-Bermuda race which started on Friday, June 18.

She also viewed several of the bareboats in our Newport charter fleet, such as the Beneteau 42 and Jeanneau  45 & Jeanneau 49 .  These yachts are in pristine condition and still have some availability this summer; why not book  a Beneteau 46 for July 4th weekend!  We also recently added a second Jeanneau 50 and will add a third next summer as well as a Jeanneau 53.  See all of our Newport Bareboat Sailing Yachts.

We have a great itinerary for Newport and Southern New England to get you in the mood for your summer Newport/New England bareboat charter.
