Perini Navi’s 164’ SY C. 2173: Facing Up

The stealthy Perini Navi aluminum hull, which is under construction at the Perini Istanbul/Yildiz facility, has been turned upright in preparation for attachment to the superstructure. Designer Ron Holland worked with Perini Navi on the 164’ aluminum ketch that, emblematic of Perini Navi, is state-of-the-art throughout. The yacht is equipped with a swing-keel, centralized servo-assisted sail-plan controls, and twin diesel propulsion engines. Final commissioning at Viareggio is scheduled for late summer with a delivery date on the books for 2012.

Fast Forward: Heesen’s 213’ Displacement Hull

Heesen’s naval architects, Van Oossanen & Associates, are taking aluminum displacement hulls to thrilling speeds with the forward thinking Heesen 6500. Recent tank tests conducted at the Wolfson Unit in Southhampton, UK, predict an amazing 30% increase in performance as a result of a slender hull design that slices through surf with blade-like agility. Exterior design by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects manages to belie the yacht’s size with a relatively low, sleek profile, accentuated with uninterrupted sweeping lengths of darkened glass pane. The thoroughly hi-tech, contemporary style allows for voluminous exterior sun and beach areas, incorporating a swimming pool, sauna, hammam and forward helipad. Despite its impressive LOA, the yacht, which accommodates 12 guestsand 13 crew, boasts improved sea-keeping ability, maneuverability and reduced engine emissions as a result of innovations in hull design. Visit the Heesen Yachts display at the Monaco Yacht Show to view this new design.

144’ Project Nostalgia: Classically Modern

Dutch designer PB Behage’s new, ultra-luxury yacht brings a classic design into the 21st century. While elegant exterior styling is reminiscent of the œGolden Age of yachting, state-of-the-art equipment and mechanicals anchor this long-range vessel firmly in the present. A traditional floor plan includes on the main deck; spacious salon, formal dining area and master suite with walk-in closet. Guest suites are located on the lower deck. Pleasant exterior spaces allow for relaxing in sun, shade, or the roomy Jacuzzi. With an impressive range of 5,000nm, this transatlantic vessel is ready for adventure.

Miami Boat Show 2010

As the 2010 Miami Boat Show comes to a close today, it’s difficult to know if the beautiful yachts on display or the weather is what visitors will most remember! Being based in Ft. Lauderdale, I was able to get to the show easily and had the pleasure of viewing Lagoons 500 & 420 which are luxurious options if a bareboat catamaran Caribbean charter is in your future.

Hot Yachts for the Monaco Show – TRIDENT- 65m Feadship

TRIDENT

Designed by Donald Starkey, TRIDENT is another of our favourites this year! Beautiful woods and marbles, every exotic stone you’ve never heard of, customized mosaic in every bathroom to match the exquisite marble with fossilized shells. Beautiful details unite the overall theme of texture and grain, fabric and cut. The range of materials used was breathtaking: travertine, granite, sandstone, limestone from the Sahara and onyx, then Japanese ash, grey stained pine, chestnut, flamed mahogany, rosewood, flame cut whitewashed chestnut, lacquered Japanese sen and olive. Fabrics included silks, leather, batik and suede. Even the venetian blinds were made of hand-stitched leather!

There is also great use of light, with huge windows and sliding water paper screens in the cabins and dining room. Here the long table is set lengthways, exaggerating the feeling of space and luxury. Even the carpets are a cut above, with the packed solid pile of New Zealand wool that literally bounced under foot. It is an absolute feast for the senses, with beautiful artwork, paintings and sculptures throughout. The main salon has a huge circular white leather sofa in two halves, which slides on air, so can be configured to suit the occasion, including cinema viewing, when a large screen emerges from the ceiling where it normally remains hidden.

One final piece de resistance is the central elevator. It is built of book-cut , wire- brushed travertine, so as well as the sheer beauty of the stone, having chips of silver and gold in the amber mesh, a mirrored sill on the floor and ceiling creates the effect of a central column that continues into eternity above and below . If that’s not enough, there is also great deck space, a gym, a Jacuzzi, and all the water toys you could wish for!
