Albany Marina: Superb Luxury Yachting in the Bahamas

Albany Marina promises to be an elite location with world-class amenities designed to entice superyachts to the western end of New Providence Island in the Bahamas. Located just seven minutes from the Nassau airport, the location and facilities provide a new and spectacular luxury yachting destination.

The first phase of the marina, completed this August, includes 71 slips with 25 finger piers to accommodate yachts ranging from 50-240 feet. Gangways are rated for use by golf carts and large vehicles, facilitating provisioning and transport. The marina will also include a fuel dock with high-speed dispensers, concierge services and first-class crew facilities.

Albany Marina is part of an extravagant resort complex that has been in the works for several years. The elegant 580-acre oceanfront community, developed by Ernie Els, Tavistock Group and Tiger Woods, is destined to become an international Mecca for the well heeled.

Future development plans include a luxury boutique hotel, beach club, restaurant, adult pool and lounge, water park, kids’ clubhouse, full-service spa, state-of-the-art fitness center, an equestrian center and an Ernie Els designed 18 hole golf course.

Pumpkin Soup Recipe from Mrs. Bain and BEYC

In the British Virgin Islands the locals and lucky yachtsmen savor autumn flavors with a unique Caribbean flair. At the Bitter End Yacht Club seasonal fare includes Mrs. Bain’s scrumptious pumpkin soup, and the chef is kindly providing us with her special recipe.

Mrs. Bain's Pumpkin Soup

Ingredients:

1 chopped onion

5 celery stalks, sliced

2 carrots, sliced

5 pounds fresh pumpkin

1-teaspoon beef base

1-teaspoon chicken base

2 cloves of garlic

1-teaspoon cinnamon

1-teaspoon black pepper

1-gallon water

Preparation:

Peel the pumpkin, cut into pieces and steam until tender.

In a large pot, place the pumpkin, and remaining ingredients in the water and boil until very soft. Remove from heat and let cool. Once the soup has cooled enough to handle, place in a blender and puree. You might need to do this in batches.

After pureeing, pour though a sieve to take out any lumps. Adjust seasoning to taste; add a dollop of sour cream, if desired. Enjoy!

Feadship Luxury Yacht ODYSSEY Emerges Transformed

Feadship De Vries Makkum has re-launched134-foot Odyssey, a complex project that has earned the Feadship refit team well-deserved accolades. The owners, an experienced yachting family, considered rebuilding the vessel to their exact specifications a better value than committing to a new build. ODYSSEY was perfectly suited to their requirements for a ship with transoceanic capabilities as well as accessibility to secluded areas and ports.

Additional aft deck areas for sunning and entertaining were also a priority.Inresponse the designers at Feadship Voogt Naval Architects devised a general arrangement that lengthened the hull by ten feet, significantly enlarging the bridge deck lounge and sun deck, which now features a Jacuzzi and spacious sunpads. The main deck aft includes new U-shaped seating and the bridge deck is now equipped with a new tender crane. A redesigned lazarette and folding swim platform have also been added.

Extensive interior remodeling includes new bathrooms, galley, bridge deck lounge, laundry, crew quarters and furnishings. With a complete exterior repaint ODYSSEY, originally launched in 1989 as White Rabbit, has been completely transformed.

Kingship Sets New Yacht Design Standard for 144’ GREEN VOYAGER

The first steel block of this potentially award-winning yacht commenced assembly last month at Kingship Shipyard. Green Voyager is designed for minimal environmental impact that exceeds MEPC 159(55) requirements and RINA Green Plus Platinum notation.

To this end, the explorer-style yacht is equipped with diesels, shaft generator/E-motors, diesel-electric and advanced power management and battery power systems for propulsion and hotel loads estimated to increase efficiency by16% in propulsion, 20% for hotel loads, and produce unprecedented low levels of emissions.

Tork Buckley, career Captain and current editor of the Yacht Report, will represent Kingship in a presentation at the Singapore Superyacht Conference, October 13-14, 2010, explaining the Green Voyager project and how shipyards can lead rather than follow superyacht trends.

The Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) has nominated Green Voyager for their 2010 Environmental Award. The UIM promotes environmentally friendly innovation and technology in an effort to address environmental challenges, particularly the decline in biodiversity and energy resources.

Green Voyager is a collaborative design effort between the yard, architects, engineers and consultants who share a vision to reduce the environmental footprint. The yard has entered Green Voyager for consideration by the UIM Environmental Working Group.
