Peter Island, BVI, Yacht Charter Guide
Peter Island, Britsh Virgin Islands
Peter Island is a small and largely unspoiled island located between Norman Island and Salt Island, directly south across Sir Francis Drake Channel from Tortola. Its main attraction is the upscale 5 Star Peter Island Resort. Peter Island is largely unspoiled and therefore offers beautiful beaches, especially the gorgeous white sandy beach at Deadmans Bay. This beach has been rated one of the most romantic beaches in the world dut to the curving white sandy beach, palm trees, hammocks and unspoiled setting. Beware, anchoring can be tricky in Deadmans Bay, due to the thick seagrass. You will also find swells at the east end of the bay.
Peter Island Resort is built on two bays, Sprats Bay, which is the Resort's harbour, and Deadmans Bay, where the Resort has built a beach bar and restaurant that is more welcoming to charterers. You will see a villa on top of the outcrop between the two bays, which was used by the Avon company as a reward for its top performer. You an rent it today if cost is no object!
It is quite common to see Sea Turtles in Deadmans bay, who thrive in the sea grass. If you keep an eye on the water you will soon see a greenish brown blow surfacing, and the sticking its head up for a breath. Turtles are rarely in a hurry- you can dive in and follow them around the bay. Many also have a remora attached to them, picking up any scraps the turtle doesn't care for.
Other anchorages and beaches on Peter Island include Little Harbour and Great Harbour on the North Side of the Island and Key Bay and White Bay, named for its long, white sandy beach on the south side of Peter Island.
