Anegada Island - British Virgin Islands
About Anegada | Anegada Map | Our BVI Charter Yachts | BVI BlogAbout Anegada
Anegada is all about total relaxation in a coral beach paradise. It is the second largest of the British Virgin Islands, and the only island that is set away from the main archipelago. It is located northeast of Tortola in a vast coral reef - about 2 hours sail from Virgin Gorda with a steady easterly wind.
The island of Anegada is strikingly different from the other BVI islands because it is coral, not volcanic in origin - so it is flat with very little vegitation. The highest point is only 26 feet above sea level. Its fame comes from its pristine and deserted beaches, relaxed style, pina colada bars and its lobster barbecues on the beach.
Anegada has a history of shipwrecks on the reefs and offers wildlife including turtles, pelicans, the endangered Anegada iguana, flamingoes, and of course, lobsters. It is definitely worth a trip if you're looking for a relaxed beach day accompanied by a few rum drinks, and a big lobster roast at night!
Chartering bareboat to Anegada was forbidden for years due to the tricky and dangerous reefs extending large distances from the shore, but it is better marked now and is especially accessable by catamaran. There is no true harbor or mooring area on the island, but the normal mooring is an opening in the coral reef in its southwestern side near the Anegada Reef Hotel and Pomato Point. Once anchored, you can enjoy a cold beer and spend a fine day on the beach or touring the island to see its wildlife. You can easily find a taxi to take you to see the Flamingoes or the Loblolly beach, which is a main snorkelling beach.

Our BVI Charter Yachts
The best way to experience Anegada is by catamaran, either crewed, bareboat or bareboat with skipper, due to the low draft that makes it easier to avoid the coral. We generally recommend having a skipper on board the first time you charter to the island, in order to reduce the stress and increase the enjoyment.
Boatbookings.com works very closely with all of the quality charter operators in the BVI, and can find you the ideal charter yacht out of the more than 400 yachts we have to offer.
