Before 1929 – The Idea Begins

The Monaco Grand Prix started because the principality of Monaco wished to become more prominent in international motorsports and increase their tourist flow. Antony Noghès, president of the Automobile Club de Monaco, suggested holding a race entirely within Monaco’s borders. With support from Prince Louis II and local racing driver Louis Chiron, he planned a street circuit through the narrow roads of Monte Carlo.
