Chinese New Year (also know as Lunar New Year) is one of the biggest events celebrated by the Chinese community in Singapore. The next New Year (which will bring in the year of the snake) comes in on February 10th<\/sup> 2013.<\/p>\n

The Reunion dinner on the eve of the New Year is arguably the most important part of the celebrations. All of the family members will come together for a lavish meal with multiple courses, and the streets of Singapore come alive with parties and traditional music. During the festival, Chinatown and Boat Quay are full of street decorations, night markets, parties and dazzling lights. There are also plenty of dragon and lion dancers, and female dance groups in the main Kreta Ayer Square.<\/p>\n

It is suggested that the lanterns symbolize the people letting go of their past selves and starting fresh for the New Year.<\/p>\n
