How To Select the Best Day Charter Yacht in Singapore
How To Select the Best Day Charter Yacht in Singapore
Here are our tips on how to select the best day charter yacht in Singapore, from Kevin Moir, our Asia Pacific Charter Director.
Step 1 – How Many Guests Do You Have v Yacht Capacity?
In the yacht titles below, you will see the charter yacht “capacity”. This is the maximum number of guests allowed for a day charter in Singapore waters. This is set by government safety regulations, and is not flexible. There is no difference between adults and children.
Choose a charter yacht with only a slightly higher capacity than your number of guests, since bigger is usually more expensive. A charter yacht with capacity 40 for only 10 guests will be expensive per person!! (don’t worry about crew – they are not included in the guest capacity).
The overnight capacity, or the capacity for charters outside Singapore, is usually the number of beds on the yacht. This is far less than the day charter capacity. See each yacht description for details.
Step 2 – What Is Your Charter Yacht Budget?
Click on the title of any Singapore charter yacht. That will take you to a page of yacht information, including detailed costs. There are typically 3 elements of cost:
1. The Charter Fee. This is to hire the whole yacht. It includes crew, and fuel for the standard itinerary. For most yachts, this is a flat fee. A few yachts have a per person fee.
2. Food & Beverage. Sample menus for each Singapore charter yacht are downloadable from the bottom of each yacht page. This is usually priced per person, but with minimum order quantities. Most yachts add a “foodage/service” charge to bring your own food. For bringing your own drinks, some yachts charge “corkage”, others do not.
3. GST and Service Charge. Some yachts charge these, others do not. GST is currently 7% in Singapore.
Step 3 – What Style of Charter Yacht?
Based on your number of guests and budget, there may be a few yachts that fit your criteria. Then it is personal preference – which Singapore charter yacht do you like the look of most?
If your guests are not experienced sailors, you might consider a catamaran. Cats have 2 hulls, which means they are very stable in the water. This reduces the chances of seasickness, although Singapore waters are very calm. Large yachts are also more stable than smaller yachts. Also, cats are much wider, so you get more space compared to a similar length monohull.
Step 4 – Singapore Yacht Charter Timing
Each yacht page shows prices for various yacht charter timings ie during the day, evening, full day, weekdays, weekends, etc.
Daytime is better for sunshine and swimming. With evening charters, you have the sunset, the skyscrapers lighting up, and the light show on Sentosa.
Many charter yachts have fixed charter timings to allow them to do 2 charters per day. If you want a timing that cuts across 2 time slots, you will have to pay for both time slots, or choose a longer duration charter option eg “full day charter”
Owners will only allow timing changes the day before your charter, if they know they do not have another charter booked for your date.
Step 5 – Check Availability?
Once you have selected your preferred charter yacht, send me an enquiry with your number of guests, required date, time slot, and preferred yacht - each yacht has an enquiry form at the bottom of its page - and I will quickly confirm availability with the owner, and send you a proposal.
