Turgutreis is situated 18 kms/5 miles from Bodrum and named after the respected 16th century Turkish admiral, Turgut Reis. This bustling port town has good beaches, many shops and restaurants and several fine hotels. The port town offers many bars and cafes in which to relax and enjoy the sunsets to which Turgutreis is renowned. The most popular restaurants are those offering typical Turkish specialities such as `pide` and other oven baked delights. Saturday is market day and the town fills up with villagers bringing fresh produce such as tomatoes, eggplant, olives and watermelons to sell. Together with neighbouring Kadikalesi, Turgutreis is well known for its windsurfing because of its consistent winds. Turgutreis is also close to Gümüslük which is famous for its fish restaurants.
